Nail File Friday’s: Light Blue + Gray Layered Nail Art

If you saw last weeks nail look you’ll see that this is a similar nail art, only this one is layered. I wanted to keep the same idea while incorporating something different but still keeping it all easy to achieve. The idea of these ‘Nail File Friday’s’ series is to do just that, give you easy and quick ideas that you can recreate yourself at home. As a busy mom, that’s what I’m always looking for!

Essie Nail Polish Used: Essie Find Me An Oasis (light blue), Chinchilly (gray) and Beyond Cozy (glitter) but this is the next best thing Social-Lights (shimmer)

Nail Tools UsedNail Brush and Dotter, you can use Avery Reinforcement Labels or even tape, also try these French Manicure Stickers – Mix Styles they’ll work as an easy guide for nail art.

Steps For Nail Art:

Step One:  1 Coat of ‘Seche’ Base Coat

Step Two: I painted the ring fingers with glitter. I did the angled nail art by first applying a coat of the light blue nail polish – you can use labels or tape to help you achieve a straight line, remove it while the polish is still wet, clean up the sides of the nail by simply dipping the nail brush in acetone, after each nail. Allow the polish to dry and then apply a coat of the gray nail polish – at an angle as well, leave a tiny bit of the light blue showing to achieve the layered nail polish look.

Tip For Layered Polish: I’ve found that doing the lighter color in the bottom will allow for a better look – light blue on the bottom and gray on top.

…. Allow the nail art to completely dry to avoid smudging ….

Step Three:  1 Coat of ‘Out The Door’ Top Coat

This is optional ….

‘Cuccio’ Cuticle Oil – Milk & Honey  – Cuticle oil will avoid your cuticles from drying that can happen from the nail acetone, it helps keep your cuticles moisturized.

Reblog Wednesday: QUOTE OF THE DAY #111 — The Motivational Blog

Have you been to The Motivational Blog – you must! It’s so inspirational and as he so well titled it, a motivational blog. His posts inspires and allows for some great thinking stimulation. This particular quote that he posted, touched this mother’s heart. As someone living with chronic pain it’s almost inevitable not to compare myself to other mothers. I can be anywhere, may it be at my little ones school, at church, on a family outing, etc. I see mother’s that seem to be having it all together. So well put together from their hair, clothes, like they slept a full 8 hours, freshly bathed and ready to go! I imagine even just having had a nice hot breakfast too. That was me, maybe 5 kids ago!

This mama today, though this year I have my oldest four in school – thank you Jesus, I’m still home with two kids. So, although the house is a bit quieter for a few hours, things still need to get done – slowly but surely, but I do not look as put together as these other moms. If I’m blessed, I’ll probably reheat my morning coffee four times before I give up and dump it, shower in middle of afternoon naps, with the door open because in my head, someone will come in and rob the house – I know, I’m dramatic that way! I get by to say the least. However, in the midst of it all, my own self doubt, self loathing, lack of motivation and self confidence, this quote is such a loving reminder. You truly do not need to be anyone else, you don’t need anyone to validate you, validate you as a woman, as a mother, as a business woman, as an employee, you don’t need anyone to hold your hand, you don’t need anyone to love you, because you can do all that on your own! I’m in my mid-30’s now and I can say that in my youth, I tried to love someone so much, I tried so hard to hang on, tried so hard to impress and at the end, there was nothing in the world that would have stopped him from leaving. So, before you go ahead and put all your eggs in one basket or put your whole heart into someone, love yourself first.

Look for a partner that will complement you –

not complete you.

You are complete on your own! Be aware of lies, if you don’t believe in who you are, others will know that and will try to take advantage of your trust.

They say the older you get, the wiser you are, however if you know that there is no one more important than you, you will stop living for others and begin to live your best life today – no need to grow old to figure this out! If we should learn anything from our elders, is that they learned to give a hoot about what others think of them. They are experiencing true freedom, I hope you experience your freedom too.

Happy Wednesday.

Happy Meme Monday: Let’s Compare Headaches

If you or someone you know has Chiari Malformation or any other illness that is followed by chronic pain, you know the hard task of having to explain the illness to people. That dreaded moment of having to explain how you feel, how it affects your life,  sometimes even after you’ve told these same people that your illness has no cure – multiple times! Not to mention trying really hard to tell them about your pain levels, headaches and what you have to live with, in such a way that won’t scare the Jesus out of them!

It doesn’t stop there, because even after you’ve explained the type of pounding headaches you have, they then proceed to tell you about their headaches. Because they think it compares to yours and how sharing that with you somehow will comfort you – yes, this meme is for you!

Happy Monday.

Searching For A Sign

I often get so many thoughts running through my mind and maybe you can relate. These thoughts of wanting to do something else, something more, maybe learn a new language or perhaps learn a new recipe. As for me I think with the blog and the online store I have, is enough considering there are still little ones to look after. But really, there’s always that one thing, that thing that we think we should be doing, should have done or goal yet to be reached. And all you’ve been doing is waiting, waiting for something, perhaps God to come and give you a sign. Perhaps because you’re not sure, you have self doubt, you’re afraid, afraid of failure or afraid of success, but you’re afraid. So, let’s say, you do it, whatever you’ve been thinking of doing, a job change, going back to school, yes, lets just say you do it. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to finally do what you’ve been thinking about doing for so long?!

This often reminds me of those who have been stuck in a rut for so long. We become content with what we have because it’s become our safe place and it’s what we’ve known for so long. In my opinion, the number one culprit in relationships, is the argument of never having enough money, you complain there isn’t enough, but I often question, what are we doing to change that, what are we doing to get to the finances that we need to finally ‘make ends meet.’ In all honesty, probably nothing. So, if you’re a mother, a father or simply someone that’s looking to take that leap – take it! It’ll take you farther than you know.

The First Day Of School – Poem From A Teacher To A Parent

Have your little ones – or not so little ones, begun school? My little ones went back to school this week and it’s been quite the ride for my four year old. The first day, she was ecstatic, there were no words to express her excitement to finally be able to attend school with her older siblings. However, she arrived home not understanding why there were children crying in her classroom. As much as we’ve tried to calm her heart, she isn’t liking what she’s seeing. It can truly be an adjustment for some children, especially for first time students – like my daughter. As teachers have in the past told me, preschoolers will often take about a week to adjust, that’s what I’m hoping for her.

I can understand why people would assume that since there is a tiny tribe behind me, that I am somewhat numb to many ‘firsts’ my little ones experience. But that is far from the truth. I’m experiencing firsts with each and every one of them. As much as they are siblings, as much as they may have the same features, maybe even mannerisms, they are so different. They are individuals, they even cry different – as only their own parent would know, they talk different, they even handle situations differently, some are shy and some even far more sensitive than the other. My oldest although entering the sixth grade – the dreaded middle school, she is also experiencing many ‘firsts’ and as a parent, I am experiencing it all with her.

I wanted to share with you today a poem given to me by my four year old’s preschool teacher. It served as a reminder that teachers understand the adjustment isn’t only experienced by the child, but also the parent. So, whether you have one, two or a tiny tribe like mine, every experience with our children is our first. And I have a feeling, that will never change.

‘The First Day Of School’ – From A Teacher To A Parent

I gave you a little wink and smiled

As you entered my room today

For I know how hard it is to leave

And know your child must stay.

You’ve been with her for four years now

And have been a loving guide,

But now, alas, the time has come

To leave her at my side.

Just know that as you drive away

And tears down your cheeks may flow

I’ll love her as I would my own

And help her learn and grow.

From as a parent, I too know

How quickly the years do pass

And that own say soon it will be my turn

To take my child to class.

So please put your mind at ease

And cry those tears no more

For I will love her and take her in

When you leave her at my door.

Love,

From A Teacher To A Parent

Have a wonderful day. I pray that your children have a phenomenal school year.

Reblog Wednesday: Purpose of life — I refuse to give up

Have you ever read a poem that just captured your heart, gave you motivation – even if just a tiny bit? This poem did just that for me. If you’re living with Chiari + Syringomyelia or not, maybe living with another of life’s circumstances that you just don’t understand, this poem, talks about living above it all. We’re here for a reason beyond our own comprehension. How these moments, these moments you’re living will come and go, how there will be the inevitable bumps on the road, things that will shake you, things that will test you, but when things get better – because they always do, you’ll come out with more strength and with more wisdom then ever before.

Enjoy.
