Blogger Recognition Award 2018

I received this incredible recognition by James, he’s over at Myplace3187. I’m a relatively new blogger and James is one of the first bloggers that I began to follow, since then he’s been an amazing support for my page, as he has for me. Thank you James for it all and for this ‘Blogger Recognition Award.’

How I Started Blogging ….

There are a few reasons behind having started this blog, however the main one was bringing awareness to my illness – Chiari 1 Malformation + Syringomyelia. It’s a congenital condition in which the brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. There are 1 in 1,000 people living with this rare condition. The great news – since I started this blog, I’ve connected with so many wonderful fellow ‘Chiarians.’ Although it isn’t a walk in the park, to feel their strength and support is what I’ve been wanting – to connect with those that are walking in my shoes. They are the reasons for this blog.

I’m also often called mom by six tiny humans and wife by a Marine veteran. So, here you will find a glimpse of my life, all that’s in between and my life with chronic pain.

Two Pieces of Advice For New Bloggers ….

  1. Definitely try not look at your stats – says the one that just looked at her stats! I know it’s hard, I know it’s there, I know numbers ‘don’t lie’ however those numbers will break you on a bad day. Keep focused, have patience and the rest will follow.
  2. Have a good thing ‘going’?! Don’t be afraid to monetize from your blog. Yes, I love to blog, I enjoy writing and if you have been a follower of mine, you’ve noticed that I have three days out of the week where I will absolutely try my best to blog because it helps me keep myself on track. My life is a bit busy so I appreciate a good schedule. However, with that said, blogging is a lot of work, hours, at times researching and overall time consuming! Shocker, I know! So, if you love what you’re doing, you’re spending countless – perhaps hours a week, preparing a post, I say, bring on the money! Look into getting paid for doing what you love. As a stay at home mom, this blog has been the first thing – besides my my online store, to get my focus away from the home. So, if we can incorporate our ‘work’ and passion or love, and find an opportunity to monetize off it, I say, try it – do it! I’m still trying to get there, it’s definitely a slow process but it’s a process none the less. As they say, ‘you never know until you try.’ Is profiting off your blog something you’re doing or thought of doing – I’d like to know your thoughts on that. Thanks in advance!

  1. Huge congrats on the well-deserved award! Some great advice, and I agree that trying to not look at stats is a good idea because it really can be disheartening sometimes. You never know until you try different things with your blog, such as monetising, so that’s a great point. Thank you very much for the kind nomination! 🙂

    1. I’m no expert, but from what I’ve read, you can put advertisements – Word Press has their own, and/or affiliated with a company. There’s a lot of factors that come into play to start seeing the ‘money’ coming in, for example, the amount of followers you have and the traffic your blog has. I’ve gotten turned down by companies because I’m still ‘too small’ of a blog – started this year.

      1. I want to see your blog readership grow–if that’s okay with you? Of course, you are invited to come see what my blog is doing…when the opportunity presents itself. Not everyone gets these awards—but you have! (I have too, but have gone AWARD FREE). YOU DA MOM!

    1. Thank you – so sweet! I often think Chiari has pulled me down to the very bottom, made me feel at my very lowest, but since creating this outlet, it’s allowed me to connect with some incredible people – like you. We’re all going through different situations, come from different backgrounds, have different illnesses, perhaps ourselves or someone we know, an illness that is seen or unseen, as mine is, and yet the human heart, the sympathetic heart shines through and connects us at a level that just comforts the soul.

      Thank you, likewise! 😊🙏🏽

      1. I think it’s ultimately that I feel the pressure involved and am afraid I’d lose my love for writing. I used to own a knitting store online and it got sooo stressful during the holidays I lost my love for knitting and crochet. After TBI I had to close shop. So, although the idea of making a bit of money is indeed there, I’m afraid at this time, with a weak body, I certainly couldn’t handle the stress since it was a lot to handle when my body was strong before. But, I need the money as my hubby makes a low income settling for anything after he lost his great job. So, you can sense my struggle.

      2. So sorry! We’re there with you! But I’ve seen that God does always provide, always, from the food on the table, down to the socks. He’s there. It gets to be a little stressful to be constantly thinking about the advertisers, but at the end I want to ‘make it happen.’ I read one comment from a reader at another blog that read somewhere along the lines, ‘I’m glad you don’t have advertisements.’ Lol I laughed because, ahem! I do! 🙋🏽‍♀️ I mean, I have mouths to feed and I live with chronic pain that doesn’t allow me to work a 9-5 so, yes I have advertisers on my blog! I try not to overwhelm my readers with it, I know some find it annoying but 🤷🏽‍♀️ what can you do?! You can’t make everyone happy.

And I’m there with you! The pain is constant, even thinking gets my head going and throbbing and it’s all down hill from there 🤦🏽‍♀️ So patience is indeed required on a daily basis.

      3. Oh, He does Ana!! I’ve learned to trust more fully going through job loss and financial set backs, so I guess that too has been a gift.

I’m thankful God has blessed you and your blog can bring in some money. I know you understand how financially devestating illness/injury is, and then when there’s so many littles, constantly growing and needing, yes……it’s a big struggle but I am thankful Ana to be alive and still here to struggle along and feebly trust day by day. You’re presence in my life means so much to me! 🙏💗

      4. Yes, I think while it’s still frustrating to be in the midst of it all, it also allows us to see God when we otherwise wouldn’t.
I’m not bringing in money yet from the blog, as they say, it’s a slow process. But I’m hopeful the work will pay off – literally! Haha! I do have the online store which doesn’t bring in the BIG bucks but it’s doing ok – can we compare it to a lemonade stand?! Ouch! Yes, again it’s hard work. And my chronic pain doesn’t help. It holds me back from being able to work a lot more. I have the advantage to have found something I can do from home, but then again, I have little ones calling me every five minutes of the day, ‘mama!’ And as much as I tell them, mamas gone to Target, they just don’t believe me. 😆 I wanted to work in the computer late last night, but I’ve fallen with a cold – thanks to my little ones that bring a bucket full of germs from school each day, and the headaches I’ve noticed just get worse when I’m sick. So, it’s definitely always something, something that at the end tries to tell me to give up, that it isn’t worth it. But I try to be loving and patient with my body. It’s been through a lot and it continues to be in pain, the least I can do is accept it and keep moving, slowing but we’re moving forward.
Thank you Vivian, same here 🤗💖

  3. Thanks for the nomination!

You know, I’ve noticed something about you.. you’re the most social introvert I ever knew lol!! I really enjoy your personality! And enjoy our chats! Keep being you!

    1. Haha! I’ll take that as a compliment! I’ll have to whisper the ‘yay’ as i don’t like the spot light on me though.

You know how there’s a name for just about everything, like the aglet (the plastic tip on the shoe lace that keeps the lace from unraveling) or when someone fears or avoids places or situations because they can bring on anxiety, it’s called agoraphobia – I have it …. shocker!

Well, I’m sure, or they should have a name for a ‘social introvert.’ Because then that’ll just add to the list of never ending things I have. Ha! 🙂 Likewise, thank you!

  4. I have thought of trying to monetize my blog…a little. I have two affiliate links on my site now. I believe that it would take my time than I could give to truly make “a living” at it…though I know several that do.

Thank you for the nomination. I am truly honored ❤

    1. That’s great! Yes, it does take time, don’t know exactly how much time. But it’s a start, so that’s always a good thing. The bloggers you do know, are they on WP? For some reason I think that perhaps WP isn’t somewhere too many bloggers making money from their blogs are found. Misconception, maybe.
      You’re welcome Stuart! 🙂
