Fourth of July

Fourth of July

We started this Fourth of July by planning some hearty meals – had homemade tacos for lunch and will be having hot dogs and chips for dinner. Because if all my little ones eat all their food – it’s a win in my book!

A couple fun facts for you to enjoy:

Americans spent over $1 billion on fireworks in 2017

and in 2017 Americans consumed about 150 million hot dogs on the Fourth of July!

I appreciate this photograph because of the Marines pictured. Thank you to all those serving and veterans, those past and present that have kept my family and I safe.

We are truly the land of the free because of the brave.

Have a lovely and safe Fourth of July!

Happy Meme Monday: Bedtime Routine

It’s a new day, the start of a new week, new goals to achieve and a new perspective to take on. As a stay at home mom, one of the many misconceptions that comes along with that, is that I have all the free time in the world. Negative! Ha, I wish! Aside from the my Chiari + Syringomyelia diagnosis I also hold more valuable titles, I’m a full time mommy, I have this blog ‘part-time’ and I also opened not too long ago an online shop that I make time to do my own designs. So, time’s definitely not on my side and this bedtime routine has so much truth ….

Yes, this definitely sums up our bedtime ‘routine’ around my household!

Have a blessed day!

You Have More Than You Know

You Have More Than You Know

Often times it’s easier to dwell and think of all the negatives that are in our lives. I think of my health, of the downward spiral it’s on and it’s so easy to get down, get sad and be a pessimist. The positives isn’t near in sight. But there are positives, to everything, to it all. I’ve often times think of the positives that Chiari and Syringomyelia has brought to my life. It’s allowed me to stay grounded and to live in the moment. I always thought of hospital stays as something foreign. However, having been in the hospital for weeks on end recovering from surgeries brought on by Chiari, it’s given me a whole new outlook on hospitals. There are so many people there, recovering, learning to walk, learning to dress – I was in that position at one point in my life, learning it all – all over again, from learning to walk, to going up and down stairs to learning to move my head from side to side to learning how to dress myself – I was about 28 years old at that time with three littles at home. So many people there feeling lonely, scared, hopeless, frustrated and sad. I’m so thankful to have seen that. It allowed me to see that even though I’m going through something very much valid, there’s also always someone else going through it worse than I am. There are people needing so much more than I do, having a grateful heart for what I have and changing perspective allows me to see what’s right in front of me. Only then is when I realize that I have so much more than I know.

Summer Home: Everything You Need for Sunny-Day Entertaining at NORDSTROM.

While doing a summer assignment with my oldest son, something stayed with me, it’s from a Swedish folktale titled, “The Laughing Magpie.” The two lines are …

“I laugh because you would rather be sad than fix your own problem.”

Know that you are bigger than any obstacle and any struggle you may be facing today.

“Silly boy, don’t you see that everything you need is right before your eyes?”

If we stop and open our eyes, we can gather the resilience and the inner strength that lies within.

Nail File Friday’s: Reverse French Manicure

So this week I tried something new, it’s the ‘Reverse French Manicure’ in a nude shade and light pink glitter polish – so easy and so nice! This is the perfect nude and the glitter gives it that something extra – hope you give this a try!

Nail Polish Used: Essie: Go Go Geisha (nude) and S’il Vous Play (pink with glitter) I wasn’t able to find that exact color but A Cut Above (pink with glitter) is the next best thing!

Nail Tools Used: Avery Reinforcement Labels and the Nail Brush for cleaning the sides of the nail

As always, apply your Seche Clear Base Coat and apply two coats of Go Go Geisha, allow the color to completely dry before applying the Reinforcement Label. Once it’s dry, place the Label as near or as far away from your cuticle as you’d like – the further away from the cuticle, the more of the second color that will show, press the label down lightly on your nail and apply A Cut Above or the second color, remove the label while the nail polish is still wet. Allow that to dry completely before applying your Out The Door Top Clear Coat – if you don’t give the polish enough time to dry before applying the top coat, the second polish will smear. And that was it, now you’ve got a beautiful reverse french manicure!

If you haven’t seen my post on the basic nail tools to own for the perfect at-home manicure, you can find it here!

Have a great Friday!

Surgery – Faith Over Fear

Related image

Surgery he said. Another surgery – I need a minute.

The preparing, the mental preparation, the anticipation and the recovery. One can never be used to surgery – I can never get used to surgery, one can never feel at ease knowing they’ll be seeing yet another surgeon or specialist, one can never be used to going into that doctors office and explain what’s wrong. You can definitely can never get used to being seen, most of the time half naked, being written on, poked on, needles ready and all eyes focused on you. They’re ready to see you break down, they’re ready to comfort you and they want to see your reaction. One can never be ready to be told, “it’s time” and have a team of unknown medical professionals wheel you in the operating room. The operating room, such a cold place – why’s it so cold, so unwelcoming, full of devices, beeping sounds all around, people with masks trying to make you feel comfortable, but how?! How do you feel comfortable, it’s cold and it’s the unknown – all over again. It’s happening all over again.

The surgeon called me last week and said, “results came in, good news, it’s benign, but it needs to be removed, when’s surgery good for you?” Once again, I felt alone, cold and afraid of the unknown, but why, I’ve been down this road countless times – too many to count. Either that or I’m just embarrassed to write the number down. In my short years, I’ve met my share of doctors, surgeons, nurses, hospital rooms and operating rooms. I’ve felt my share of needles, had my blood drawn plenty of times but am still uncomfortable. The hospitals make me feel uncomfortable, but it’s during these times when you leave it all in His hands and allow it all to be left up to the doctors. No matter how many times I’ve been down this road, I can never get used it.

Faith over fear knowing that my heart and soul will be at peace knowing that this is my journey. My journey, my story to. There’s no one stronger than you, no one with unique health circumstances.

This makes you special – I am special because I am 1 in 1,000 due to Chiari and it reminds me to slow down and live at the moment.

Have a wonderful night.

1 What does your name mean?

Ana M – I was named after Mary’s mother, Ana, which means full of grace.

2. Are you scared of heights?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes! I am definitely scared of heights. I mean take me up a couple flights of stairs and I won’t look down. No, thank you!

3. What is your best physical feature?

My best physical feature, seeing how my body has changed after having allmy babies who would have thought?! I wouldn’t say any physical features. I’d say my sense of humor, I love to laugh and love a good joke – anyone has a good mommy joke?

4. What is your favorite Music Genre?

I love anything from classical to opera to Spanish – seems I’m all over the place.

5. Are you a good cook?

Yes, I am! I also know how to follow a recipe, just perfected the Spanish Flan – you could say it’s similar to the custard – just better! Just kidding not really!

6. What is your favorite Ice-cream flavor?

Vanilla with the “Smucker’s Magic Shell” in Chocolate Fudge – and I’m not even a much a chocolate fan, but this is good. If you haven’t tried the magic shell for ice cream, you absolutely must! You can’t place it in the refrigerator for storing, you pour it on top of your ice cream and it freezes into a hard shell in seconds! It’s delicious and the kids are obsessed. You can find it in your local super market, where you would find the toppings for ice cream, say ice cream cones. You’re welcome!

8. What is your favorite festival?

Festival, I’ve been to one when I was young, it was the Jingle Ball and I was there to see Hanson – don’t judge! However, I love concerts, although in today’s world, don’t know if I’d risk my life that way. So sad. I’ve been to many concerts, I’ve seen Mariah Carey and Spanish artists like Marc Anthony (Jennifer Lopez’ baby daddy), Alejandro Fernandez, Aventura. I’ve also seen my share of plays/musicals like Don Quixote (Man of La Mancha) to Les Misérables and Fiddler on The Roof.

7. Do you have any allergies?

Ugh! Don’t remind me, I’m allergic to almost everything under the sun – from carpet, to dust, to pollen, to everything!

9. Which of your parents do you look like?

Mom but have my facial features, my eyes are like my dads – he has Korean background.

10. Who is your favorite Musician?

I’m so behind on my music, I feel like I haven’t heard music in ages! My oldest will take over the radio and she’s currently into Kelly Clarkson – she’s so good though, love her – amazing voice. And then when I’m home, I’m listening to Peppa Pig, Elmo and Minecraft! Haha, how mommy hood brings to you to the kids hood.
