SO WHAT IS BLOGGER RECOGNITION AWARD?

Blogger Recognition Award is given to bloggers by bloggers to encourage and acknowledge the hard work and effort that goes into creating posts.  It’s an opportunity for bloggers to recognize one another for each of our contributions to their blog and the blogging community!

Award Rules:

• Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

• Write a post to show your award.

• Give a brief story of how your blog got started.

• Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.

• Select 5 other bloggers to nominate.

• Comment on each blog to let them know you nominated them and provide a link to your post.

The Beginning …

my motivation was – and continues to be, to raise awareness for my diagnosis and you can read more on that in my first post here titled Chiari Malformation + Syringomyelia. Chiari Malformation or ‘Chiari‘ for short, is a rare condition, a congenital condition, one I never thought I’d have. But God knowing so much more than I can ever, has allowed this to come into my life. Although I don’t know many times the why’s, I’ve learned that it’s sometimes best to stop asking the why’s and start accepting things as they are. The diagnosis – like many, has a way of making one feel little and alone. So, after much thought, I decided to begin a blog in hopes of connecting with other people living with Chiari or other forms of illnesses. It’s been a lot of time spent on the blog, however it’s been rewarding having connected with so many people, some that don’t even have Chiari but still are going through their own personal struggles.

My Advice To New Bloggers …

I would still consider myself a new blogger. I began my blog earlier this year and I can’t say I have any legitimate advice on creating a ‘successful’ blog. I like to think that I should always consider myself a new blogger, as I always want to continue to grow, learn, and contemplate how I can recreate my site as well as myself, to become a better version of who I was yesterday. If you could write anything, write as if you were writing to a dear and beloved friend, be honest, write your own authentic thoughts on topics of your liking. I always try to be honest, who you are is what will connect you with your readers. Also, try to not focus on the numbers, number of followers, number of likes, number of comments, etc. All will come in due time. And make time, make time to read posts, time to comment, time to interact with your readers. This will tell your readers, you’re invested in them as they are in you.

Blogger Recognition Award 2018

I received this incredible recognition by James, he’s over at Myplace3187. I’m a relatively new blogger and James is one of the first bloggers that I began to follow, since then he’s been an amazing support for my page, as he has for me. Thank you James for it all and for this ‘Blogger Recognition Award.’

The Rules:

  1. Thank the Blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  2. Write a post to show your Award.

  4. Give two pieces of advice to New Bloggers

How I Started Blogging ….

There are a few reasons behind having started this blog, however the main one was bringing awareness to my illness – Chiari 1 Malformation + Syringomyelia. It’s a congenital condition in which the brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. There are 1 in 1,000 people living with this rare condition. The great news – since I started this blog, I’ve connected with so many wonderful fellow ‘Chiarians.’ Although it isn’t a walk in the park, to feel their strength and support is what I’ve been wanting – to connect with those that are walking in my shoes. They are the reasons for this blog.

I’m also often called mom by six tiny humans and wife by a Marine veteran. So, here you will find a glimpse of my life, all that’s in between and my life with chronic pain.

Two Pieces of Advice For New Bloggers ….

  1. Definitely try not look at your stats – says the one that just looked at her stats! I know it’s hard, I know it’s there, I know numbers ‘don’t lie’ however those numbers will break you on a bad day. Keep focused, have patience and the rest will follow.
  2. Have a good thing ‘going’?! Don’t be afraid to monetize from your blog. Yes, I love to blog, I enjoy writing and if you have been a follower of mine, you’ve noticed that I have three days out of the week where I will absolutely try my best to blog because it helps me keep myself on track. My life is a bit busy so I appreciate a good schedule. However, with that said, blogging is a lot of work, hours, at times researching and overall time consuming! Shocker, I know! So, if you love what you’re doing, you’re spending countless – perhaps hours a week, preparing a post, I say, bring on the money! Look into getting paid for doing what you love. As a stay at home mom, this blog has been the first thing – besides my my online store, to get my focus away from the home. So, if we can incorporate our ‘work’ and passion or love, and find an opportunity to monetize off it, I say, try it – do it! I’m still trying to get there, it’s definitely a slow process but it’s a process none the less. As they say, ‘you never know until you try.’ Is profiting off your blog something you’re doing or thought of doing – I’d like to know your thoughts on that. Thanks in advance!

Reblog Wednesday: Purpose of life — I refuse to give up

Have you ever read a poem that just captured your heart, gave you motivation – even if just a tiny bit? This poem did just that for me. If you’re living with Chiari + Syringomyelia or not, maybe living with another of life’s circumstances that you just don’t understand, this poem, talks about living above it all. We’re here for a reason beyond our own comprehension. How these moments, these moments you’re living will come and go, how there will be the inevitable bumps on the road, things that will shake you, things that will test you, but when things get better – because they always do, you’ll come out with more strength and with more wisdom then ever before.

Enjoy.

The Liebster Award – 2

confetti.Liebster Award.2018

Among the greatest things blogging can do for you, one thing is for sure it’s the people you come across with and the comments that you read  that allow you to get a glimpse into someones life. You read into the bloggers/writers life, their struggles, their families, their joys, their illnesses and their most precious moments, it’s amazing. It’s incredibly humbling to be thought in such a manner that another fellow blogger can think of you for such awards and nominations. I know many can think it’s a bit of a drag, however, I like to think it’s someone thinking you are so unique, they’d like to know more of you in form of their own unique questions.

And for this one in particular, I want to thank Stuart over at Something to Stu Over. His blog is filled with authenticity and pure honesty. And I appreciate you for that! He writes about his journey to finding his way to Christ and filled with encouraging words about the truths that life can have us go through. If I can finish with this, I have noticed he also, calls his fellows bloggers by their name :: I’m speechless :: YES! He calls me by my name! I appreciate that. Often times and I won’t name any names, ahem, but at times I get called, Chiari. LOL. No my dear and amazing friends, I am not Chiari, rather I have Chiari. Or, or, or let’s call each other by our blog names! Yes, no, maybe?! I’ll let that simmer. So, now let’s keep this train moving along …..

Here’s a little history on The Liebster Award:

Recognizing bloggers for their efforts is the greatest compliment. The Liebster Award is an opportunity for bloggers to recognize and support other bloggers for their achievements. It’s geared towards blogs with smaller viewership.

The Liebster Award is available from January 1 – December 31, 2018. All nominations are voluntary and if the blogger chooses to accept nomination, I will list the rules at the bottom of this post and the official rules can be found HERE

Here are the rules:

Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

Answer the questions you were asked.

Share 10 random facts about yourself.

Nominate at least 3 blogs for the award.

Ask your nominees 10 questions and inform them of the nomination.

Here are Stuarts questions for his nominees:

1. Besides the Bible what is your favorite book you have ever read?

I would have to say, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This book in a nutshell, is about a young boy whom struggles in life and believes to be an outsider in this world. I read it when I was young and when I was going through a period of time when I trying to find myself and wanting to fit in. Ironically enough, S.E. Hinton wrote this book when she was about 16 years old and still in high school, just around the age when I fell in love with the novel.

2. What, in your opinion, is your greatest achievement in life?

My children, my kids, my babies, mis niños, etc. etc.?! Yes! As much as they drive me off and on the wall, as much as they scream, as much as there are times, many, many, many times where I may or may not want to pull each one of my hairs out, as much as they have to be told twenty times to go back to bed, they are my pride and most highest of joys. I was told at 15 years old that due to some complications with my uterus that I would not conceive. HA! Look at me now doc?! Boy OH boy, was he wrong! I most definitely didn’t think or ‘plan’ to have six babies and by societies standards, a bus load of ’em, but God had a different plan for me, all I did was say, YES! And am thankful that aside from them being high risk due to my illness, they are here! I trusted in Him and He followed through with His promise.

3. What is your reason for blogging?

My main goal was and still is to spread awareness of Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia. They are rare illnesses that have no cure today. The best way to alleviate pain is through decompression surgery for Chiari and laminectomy for Syringomyelia – I’ve had both. These surgeries are not a cure, they’re are simply to alleviate pain.

4. What is the best advice you have for newer bloggers?

Relax. Just relax and be yourself. And I will tell you another great one that was given to me by Stuart and that is to stop looking at the numbers! Yes, simple yet, so difficult! But yes, stop looking at the numbers, relax and allow yourself to be your most authentic self and the numbers will be there in due time on their own. Your amazing writing will drive readers to your site every single time.

5. If you could change anything in the world, what would it be?

I would say to have more humility in the world and less pride. I see so much pride in people today that it prevents us from being thoughtful and compassionate towards one another. I am no more or less than anyone and God didn’t create us to be that way with one another, He created us to be brothers and sisters through Him and to be a unit.

6. Do you color with crayons or markers?

Crayons. Markers tend to bleed on the back of the paper and I quickly make a mountain out of a molehill.

7. Besides Jesus, who is your favorite biblical figure?

Hannah, she was the wife of Elkanah and was infertile. However, after a blessing from Eli, she finally became pregnant with Samuel. It reminds me of my initial diagnosis at a young age. It’s also a testament to ask, ask you shall receive!

8. Who or what makes you yearn to be a better person than you were yesterday?

My family. They help me and show me daily who I truly am. I’m not a perfect mother, much less wife and they’ve shown me that. My children remind me of how little patience I have and how I still need to learn to love. They help me be able to work on myself daily, so that I can grow to be a better mom than I was yesterday.

9. When you go out on the town, what is your attire?

Anything that equals comfort, I want to be comfortable. I can’t wear heels since 2013 because of my Chiari, with my dizziness and vertigo, having heels just raises my chances to falling to an all time high. Besides I have babies to run after at any given moment so, I’ll go with comfort – or maybe cute shoes and then comfort.

10. If you have children, where is your favorite place to take them?

Out for dessert, yes, out for helado (ice cream in Spanish)! Have you seen/read our outing to Sweet Weekend With Whip N’ Dip + Raspados Loly’s – the pictures alone make me hungry! There’s something about going out for ice cream that gets people feeling happy and giddy inside. You get to try new locations, visit new neighborhoods and try different flavors! I love it, they love it, it’s a win win all around!

10 Random Facts About Myself:

1. I’m impatient, I’m impatient, I’m impatient.

2. As they say, ‘if you didn’t know’ well … you didn’t know, I have six babies.

3. My husband is a Marine Veteran.

4. I love, love, love watching 20/20

5. I was going to school for criminal justice, still love it! If you’re curious as to the why, I couldn’t, didn’t (coulda, woulda, shoulda) because I became pregnant with my oldest and time just wasn’t on my side! Yes, excuses, stay in school kids!

6. I love art! To draw, to color, to do school projects with my kiddies, DIY, crafting, you name it! I love!

7. I love maternity pants AND wait for it …. I’m NOT even pregnant. I know, but they’re so comfortable!

8. The only series in a long time that recently caught my undivided attention was the show, ‘The Crossing” – sadly it will not return for season 2.

9. My guilty ‘television’ pleasure, watching reality television, like RHONY because of one name, Bethenny and Bethenny and Fredrick, AND finally, yes, I’m going to say it, I do Keep Up With The Kardashians – when kids aren’t looking of course! I know! It’s horrible and sad and a waste of precious time and great all in one!

10. I don’t drink but when I do, Jack Daniel’s with coke, yes please!

2. I need like to be in control

3. I’m impatient with people that talk in circles ultimately wanting to feed me BS – honesty is key

4. I’m a stickler with time and appreciate people that arrive on time

5. I love to laugh! And appreciate good mom jokes 🙂

6. Would choose white chocolate over any other candy – is chocolate considered candy?!

7. I love a good sale!

8. My favorite color is money green … just kidding no I’m not just green!

9. Obsessed with Disney movies and can watch them on repeat without a problem … did I mention I have little ones 🙂

10. I DO NOT, I mean DO NOT like scary movies such as the Shining or movies with underwater scenes such as Jaws. I love a good funny movie such as The Hangover

Questions and My Answers

1. Why did you start writing your blog? After going back and forth for a few years out of fear of the unknown but passionate about my own journey with Chiari 1 Malformation + Syringomyelia, I finally did it! I want to raise awareness on Chiari and only hope to connect with others living with the same illness.

2. Do you believe in God? Yes – He’s the reason I’m here today! Yes I am weak, I have my moments where I doubt His presence in my life because of what I live with, however as today’s gospel from Matthew 28:16-20 said, ‘I am with you always, to the very end of age.’ No, I didn’t know that by heart, I had to go back and get that for you!  🙂   I underwent very risky and life changing surgeries that could have put me six feet under. I am positive I am here for a reason(s), why, I can’t quite put my finger on that but I can only hope to be humble enough to understand why one day.

3. What’s your favorite cuisine? Thai

4. Sunrise or Sunset? Sunset

5. Which was the happiest moment in your life? I’ll choose moments – my little one’s births. No book, no movie, not listening to others experiences, absolutely nothing can prepare you for the birth of your child. I’ve had them via cesarean  and that first cry, that first meeting between baby and mother is breath taking. I have no words and can only pray you experience it for yourself.

6. Define yourself in one word. Dreamer

7. What’s your favorite book? The one book that I can remember that had me wanting to read it again, is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I read it when I was young and I was immediately drawn to it.

8. What’s your favorite quote? ‘You’ve got to put your past behind you’ – Timon, The Lion King. So simple, yet it’s better said than done. If achieved though, I believe it can really be the only freeing thing you can do for yourself.

9. If you are given 10000000 cash what would you do? Cash, wow, not even a check?! Nice! Ha! OK, I’d buy that purse I’ve been eyeing, travel and eat yummy food

10. What’s the thing that you hate the most? People that complain! And whine!

11. What’s the best quality that you see in your best friend? Please don’t feel bad or sorry or anything remotely close to that, but I do not have a ‘best friend.’ Maybe I used to, say in high school, not sure. But I believe people come and go from your life for many different reasons, so to give someone a title like ‘best friend,’ personally is setting too high of expectations on one being and ultimately resulting in me being disappointed. However, a quality(s) I best admire in friends are honesty, faithful/trusting and dependability.

Mystery Blogger Award

2MysteryBloggerAward

When I was about 15 years old, I won an ‘Ace of Base’ CD at our local Youth Fair – remember them?! I was obsessed! Then a couple of years ago I won tickets for ‘Disney On Ice’ for the family – so fun. I know my winning track record is rather small, however receiving this nomination from Magic In The Everyday has been the cherry to my night – gracias! If you haven’t checked her blog, you must!

Here’s what the nomination entails.

Rules:

⇒ Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog

⇒ Tell your readers three things about yourself

⇒ Nominate 5 bloggers you feel deserve the award (modifying this because I don’t have as much time to pursue blogs as I wish I did!)

⇒ Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny one

⇒ Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog

Three Things About Me:

1. I married a man I didn’t think would be the one I’d marry but life has a way of changing and I always remember, ‘when we make plans, God laughs.’ He’s a Marine veteran who’s seen his fair share and we have six wonderful little’s.

2. I have Chiari 1 Malformation and Syringomyelia, two very rare illness’ that as a result cause me chronic pain, every single day. You can read more of my story here After going through two of the most high risk surgeries, I decided to slow down and be present. I’ve learned to be honest with myself and no longer push my body more than it should.

3. Because I’ve had life altering diagnosis followed by unexpected emergency surgeries, I now try to be the best version of myself, because tomorrow is filled with the unknown.

‘Magic In The Everyday’ Questions:

1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

I would live in Nicaragua. The situation at this moment is very unfortunate and I pray that it gets better for the sake of the people. My first semester of college was in Ave Maria College, what is now Keiser University – Latin American Campus, located in San Marcos, Nicaragua. Although my reasons for going were not only to experience living in my country but also out of pure spontaneity. It taught me to live a more simpler, more humble life and to surround myself with the people I love and things that bring me joy. If not Nicaragua because of the current state the country is in, anywhere life isn’t so fast paced, where we can stop to enjoy the simpler things in life. That would be dreamy. Now, if only I can convince the husband to make this move….to be continued!

2. What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Other than cow tongue – it’s a traditional Nicaraguan dish, I would be the wrong person to try new foods with! I know, sushi and myself just aren’t friends. I’m all about Latin foods and anything sweet – Raspados Loly’s. If you’re ever in the mood for any Latin foods, definitely try ‘Fritanga.’ They’re Nicaraguan restaurants that offer typical foods, it includes fried cheese with plantains and our ‘gallo pinto,’ it’s a mix of beans and rice. Delicious, you won’t be disappointed!

3. What is your dream?

Because I’m a mom, I dream to be here on earth long enough to see my son’s and daughter’s grow – if they choose, to know they’ve chosen a spouse that they love and loves them in return, to see them walking down the isle into the arms of the one they love, would be a privilidge to witness. That they grow and continue to be followers of God, good citizens, content and proud of where they come from.

4. What is one of your weird quirks?

Although not having been properly diagnosed, I can take organization to the next level. I’m also a planner. I have to have things in order, in my pantry the foods have to be facing the same way, I clean, every single day and I buy things in even numbers! Hence why I don’t do groceries too often. And if one of my little’s birthday is coming up say in two weeks, I’ll start planning for it today, even if it’s just our inmate family celebrating the occasion. It’s both a blessing and a curse, I accept this and handle it with lots of patience.

5. In your opinion, what is the best Disney movie of all time?

Well, Beauty and The Beast – the original, of course! My heart still skips a beat when I now sit with my very own children to watch this film. Belle is my alter ego, her love for books, for her family – her father and the kindness and patience she demonstrats towards the Beast. She didn’t accept the way others treated him for being different and she stayed when others ran, what is there not to love?! I was so young when this film came out but she stole my heart almost instantly, with her soft spoken voice and her inner and outer beauty. A little fun fact, I can recite everyone’s lines in the film.
