Happy Meme Monday: The Sleepless Parent

This meme here really spoke volumes to my most inner soul! I can’t even tell you the last time I got a full 8 hours of sleep. You know that sleep where, no baby is crying or no 4 year is standing crying hysterically next to you because her sock came off and well, we can’t possibly sleep without socks! I mean, I may have got a few hours of sleep at some point in my many trips to the hospital, but then you know the nurses come in to wake you up just to ask, ‘if everything’s OK.’ So, there’s that. But yes, my life even more so now, as a blogger and now with my YouTube channel, the sleep just keeps taking a back seat. I still remember what people used to tell me when I was pregnant with my first baby, ‘when the baby sleeps, you sleep.’ Yes, yes, I still make it my life’s purpose to do that to this day – six kids in!

  1. Ooh, those nurses! When I had my daughter, my husband ran off one nurse who insisted on coming in at every single hour to wake me up and ask how I was. I hadn’t slept in 36 hours, had a C-section, and was exhausted. (No complications, either.)

I’m lucky to get to sleep better now (as long as my brain isn’t doing its insomnia thing). Aside from my daughter coming in to get in bed with us at 3:30 in the morning, she goes to sleep really good.

    1. Yes, I’m not sure why the nurses do that?! Is it protocol, or maybe to check if we aren’t dead! Ha! Either way, hospitals equal, no sleep! Oh the c-section! I’ve had six, all my little ones have been via c-section, with my first, my doctor at the time said, I was too small, too narrow for her to come out vaginally. So, after that, I’ve been lucky enough to have the rest of the babies via c-section … said no one, ever!
I’m there with you Erika! These kids will wake up at all hours of the night, asking for water, for new socks, for milk, for whatever! And yes, I have insomnia too, if I don’t take a sleep aid, I’m up wide awake at 3am. It’s insane. And tiring.

      1. Lol I caught that, but I had sent the message already! You’re right! My brother and his family are missionaries in Minnesota, they’ve been there for the past 9 years. My sister in law still can’t get used to the cold. 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

  2. Wonderful article, thank you, Ana. I agree little kids are amazing and wonderful – they fulfill our life with bright moments. I only wish we have more sleep when kids are: just born – two and half years old. That would make whole parenting experience even Better!

    1. Yes! Christy, we must share our life’s struggle and laugh! 😏😂 If my husband and I need to work on the computer, we’ll say, let’s put the kids in bed early because I need to work on ‘abc’ haha! It’s the only way you’re able to get things done! Hey! But, on a more positive note, doctors say, sleep is essential. 😅🙌🏽

  3. The army says you only need 4 hours sleep for the mind to be functional. And that doesn’t have to be a consecutive 4 hours, it can be disbursed. I’ve been testing this theory for 5 years now and find it bs. Lol!!!

    1. Wow! That’s some interesting findings. Right around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, my mind is just kicking and screaming to be shut off! I just made a shirt in my online store that reads, ‘nap queen.’ There may some be some truth in that – some. 🤦🏽‍♀️😏 I find some days that even coffee won’t keep me up. And I walk around like a child being deprived from candy.
I’ve tested the theory I knowingly and I can tell you it’s bs. 😳🤐

      1. Lol!! There’s no substitute for a long restful sleep! And I know that feeling too… coffee only does so much some days…

      2. I’ll put up a sign on my door that reads, ‘DANGER: enter at your own risk’ – on a non-Halloween day. Because a sleep deprived parent can be scary. Maybe depending on the time of day, but it can get scary.
Oh the joys of parenting! 😊

    1. Haha! Thank you! Oh that dreamy full nights sleep Sakshi. 😌 I know you may be past it but I know you must remember what those were like. 😴 I think I can sometimes be falling asleep in the middle of sending a text message. Haha! Oops.
